What have you been doing to get farm ready?

Reading, reading, reading. Learning, learning, learning. Setting goals, plans, timelines to achieve. Completing Agribusiness courses. Working in various roles to get a good understanding of my environment and the local Agricultural industry. Continuing to be a Grazier and keep building my own beef herd. Leasing and agisting land. Applying for Leadership and other up-skiling opportunities. Attending workshops around business management and being bank savvy. Mentally preparing to take on farm ownership.

Why are you passionate about farming?

Everyday I wake up to live it and breathe it, my contentment is on the land and farming. When other little girls were dreaming of growing up to travel or get married, I wanted to be a Jillaroo, and as I got older that dream turned into managing my own place. No matter what life's thrown at me over the years, I've kept coming back to being a farmer. I just love Agriculture - that's all there is to it, but aside from loving the industry I'm passionate about education and giving back to the younger generation, those like me who didn't grow up on farm, who didn't have a million dollar inheritance waiting for them. I want to help these kids realise their own farming dream.

Best days of being a farmer:

I wake up to magpies, kookaburras and currawongs, and look out my bell house window to undulating paddocks wrapped with bush, with early morning light and mist working their way through tall mountain ash. The paddocks are designed for rotational grazing and ease of regenerative methods. The whole property is sustainable, biodiversable and treats production problems from the ground up. Water is in abundance from springs and permanent creeks, with dams catching gully overflows in the hill paddocks. There is 100% ground cover and natural timber beds and wooded areas with ground lulls for the livestock to naturally seek shelter and stay warm. I'm running a mixed enterprise; growing cattle, sheep, fodder crops, harvest pastures, and operating a business of tourism and education. Everyday is a best day, no matter if I'm fencing in sub zero, saving cows and pulling calves by myself or walking into my office to do financial projections on a beautiful summer day, because I'm finally living my dream, the one goal that's never gone off the radar. The burning desire to farm would be fulfilled and I'd be grateful and enjoy every single moment.
