What have you been doing to get farm ready?

After being a Farm Hand for just over 12yrs, in the last few months I’ve really been thinking it’s time for the next step. I have the knowledge to run the practical side of a dairy farm. Will definitely look into business management courses and talk with a agri business planner. I have also been trying to pay down personal debt and save as much money as possible.

Why are you passionate about farming?

I love the lifestyle working outside, the fresh air, diversity of jobs. It’s the ultimate working from home career. Not only can you make an income off your property, you can also save money by growing and using your own produce.

Best days of being a farmer:

I’ve grown up in South West Vic since I was 10yrs old and love it here. So I’d love to stay in the area. The dairy farm I currently work on is beautiful with lush green rolling hills just out of Heywood, Vic. The farm is owned by an older couple and run by their son. Their son has let me know that because of health issues he will be retiring in March 2022 and his parents plan to sell the farm after that. I think this is a great opportunity for me to be my own boss, doing what I love on a farm I know.
