What have you been doing to get farm ready?

I have minimal experience farming but currently operate a mobile welding business with most work coming from farms. Building yards or repairing cropping machinery and asking questions has given me a good basic understanding of areas in the ag industry.

Why are you passionate about farming?

I am passionate about farming because our country should be able to eat and be clothed with products produced locally and not imported. An honest days work for an honest pay, you cannot get any more down to earth than primary production. I see potential in many areas of farming and with value added products (maybe through vertical integration) I believe that a farmer and his employees should be able to thrive and not just survive.

Best days of being a farmer:

I love to have a view from my homestead, whether it be in the rolling green hills or open mitchell grass plains my vision is focused on getting onto a farm but not in a specific area. I am at home anywhere in this country. My main interest would be with, sheep, cattle and goats but I understand the need for different streams of revenue (or feed) so crops, orchards or even aquaculture integration would be great options too. The best days would be to come home and know that you are providing for your family, employees, your community and teaching younger generations that primary production has a legitimate future.
