What have you been doing to get farm ready?

Researching farming methods, attending expos and doing short courses in our specific interest areas to gain the requisite knowledge and experience needed to succeed in a new industry.

Why are you passionate about farming?

My partner and I have respective passions in honey and industrial hemp. Bees are a vital link in our ecosystem and honey has countless values that can be utilised in a variety of applications. Hemp is an amazing and hardy crop that can propel us towards living in a more sustainable world and offers numerous direct benefits to consumers as well. We both share a strong commitment to renewable and regenerative practices and would like to implement renewable energy systems such as solar, hydro, aquaponics and organic. We would like to create a centre of learning and sustainable inivation much like the Eden project in the U.K.

Best days of being a farmer:

Our ideal farm is located by a river which we have harnessed through hydro electricity to feed the majority of our farms energy needs. We have up to 100 acres dedicated to industrial hemp and an additional 20 hectares of crops used for the purposes of honey cultivation. Interspersed within these crops are small plantations of speciality crops, fruits, vegetables and orchards that we sell at market alongside our other hand made products. Amongst the trees and forestry surrounding our property we will establish yurts and Eco cabins which we will rent out as boutique stays for guests providing our guests with fresh farm produce. We are hoping to have a small yet sustainable mixed income stream of initiatives to reduce unecessary risk. This is our dream, it will certainly sound cliche but what we are chasing is a lifestyle that is more connected to the seasons, takes seriously our role as custodians of this planet as there's no planet b!
